The Chilkoti Group has just returned from a strong showing at the 2013 BMES Annual Meeting. Many of our student/postdocs gave talks and presented posters, but perhaps our biggest accomplishment was the fact that Tosh was chosen to deliver the Pritzker Distinguished Lecture, which is the society's most prestigious award. Linked is a summary of the event from BMES. Congrats to Tosh and everyone else who made excellent presentations!
We want to announce that Eric was recognized by the BME department as an Outstanding TA for his efforts in starting the new Physiology course (BME 244). Eric was so awesome that students actually went to Engineering Dean Katsouleas to express their appreication. Also, Jeff snagged a Pre-Doctoral CBTE Fellowship. Great work, Eric and Jeff!
Congrats to Dr. McDaniel! Jon defended his dissertation yesterday. That's 2 PhDs in 2 weeks!
Congrats to Tosh on his newly acquired fellowships! He was chosen to be inducted into the 2013 class of BMES Fellows for his "exceptional achievement and experience in the field of biomedical engineering, and a record of membership and participation in the Society." He was also elected a Fellow of the Controlled Release Society in recognition of his "outstanding contributions at the highest level in areas of interest to the CRS".
Well, it's official now; Vina and Felipe are finally allowed to don the hoods of their (Jedi) cloaks! Click to see a few photos from their Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony.
Chilkoti Group racked up major awards at the Duke BME PhD student retreat: (1) Congratulations to Sarah for winning consolation prize for Best 1-Minute Pitch with her poem entitled "Extrinsically controlled intracellular drug delivery". Please click here for the full text of this literary wonder. (2) Stacey won 3rd Best Poster Prize with the magic poster that has nabbed her 2 awards in the last month. With its winning career over, it will now officially be retired and hung on our wall of fame (see the hallway outside of CIEMAS 3325). (3) And Jonathan won the Big Kahuna-- Best Talk at the BME retreat.
Let them have cake: Chilkoti group thanks its graduating seniors for their contributions to the lab and congratulates them on graduating.
