These GCS awards will fund their research towards solving the Grand Challenges of ‘engineering better medicines/diagnostics’ and also ‘developing tools for scientific discovery’.

Congratulations to undergraduate researcher Faris Albarghouthi for being awarded 3rd place in a poster competition at the January KAUST conference in Atlanta, for his work on the synthesis and characterization of polymer brush films on high-k dielectrics for bioelectrical environments. Congratulations to Nick and Tosh for their paper in Nature Materials that solves the major bottleneck in the assembly of long repetitive DNA sequences. See also (,,  and ) and the open source Matlab code (see Codon Scrambler above) to design genes with repetitive DNA sequences that can be easily assembled in one step.
