Congratulations to National Academy of Engineering Grand Challenge Scholar (GCS) award recipients Jay Gupta, Paige Detwiler, Amy Cheng, and Manav Avlani! These GCS awards will fund their research towards solving the Grand Challenges of ‘engineering better medicines/diagnostics’ and also ‘developing tools for scientific discovery’.

Congratulations to undergraduate researcher Faris Albarghouthi for being awarded 3rd place in a poster competition at the January KAUST conference in Atlanta, for his work on the synthesis and characterization of polymer brush films on high-k dielectrics for bioelectrical environments. Mandana presented at the Cambridge Healthtech Institute's PepTalk conference. Her poster was selected to be highlighted with a presentation: "Thermally Responsive TRAIL Receptor Agonist Fusions are Potent Cancer Therapeutics." She was the only PhD student to give a talk!

Congratulations to Nick and Tosh for their paper in Nature Materials that solves the major bottleneck in the assembly of long repetitive DNA sequences. See also ([1],[2], [3] and [4]) and the open source Matlab code (see Codon Scrambler above) to design genes with repetitive DNA sequences that can be easily assembled in one step.
